Job Williams was born in 1839 in Bredon’s Hardwick, Worcestershire, the last child of John and Esther Williams. He was baptised on 29th December 1839 at St Giles’ Church, Bredon. Before Job, thirteen children had been born to John and Esther Williams in the previous 20 years, although ten had died as either babies or infants. Job’s surving siblings were William, Walter, and Adam.

In 1841, Job was living with his parents at the hamlet of Hardwick in Breedon Parish, together with his three older brothers. In 1851 the family were still living together at Hardwick, with Job, aged 11, attending school.

Job was still living with his parents at Hardwick in 1861. Like his three brothers, he was working as an agricultural labourer, while his father was a gardener. However, a year later he was living at Northway, 2 miles north-east of Tewkesbury.

On 25th March 1862, Job married Sarah Attwood at St Nicholas’ Church in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire. Their marriage was witnessed by Job’s brother Adam Williams and his future wife Caroline Freeman.

Sarah, the daughter of Benjamin and Elizabeth Attwood, was born in Oxenton, Gloucestershire, where she was baptised at St John the Baptist Church, on 22nd November 1840. As a child, Sarah attended school in Ashchurch and by 1861, aged 20, she was working as a field labourer in Ashchurch but living in the neighbouring village of Northway, where she met Job.

Job and Sarah lived at Bredon’s Hardwick after their marriage. Their first child John was born in 1864, who they had baptised on 18th December. Their next child Benjamin was baptised on 11th November 1866, and their first daughter Mary Ann on 20th December 1868. All three children were baptised at St Giles’ Church.

In 1871, Job was still working as an agricultural labourer. Their second daughter Elizabeth was baptised on 11th June 1871, and their third daughter Esther on 2nd November 1873, again at St Giles’ Church.

In the autumn of 1876, Job and Sarah’s sixth child, Herbert, was born, although he died by the end of the year.

Their next child was born in 1878 and named William. He was followed by Henry in October 1882, who was to be their last child.

Job registered the birth of his son Henry on 18th November, giving his occupation as ‘farm labourer’ and residence as ‘Hardwick, Bredon’.

Sarah Williams died in 1895 aged 52. It is not known where she was buried.

In 1901 Job was working as a gardener and living with his married daughter Elizabeth and her family in Bredon.

Job Williams died towards the end of 1904, aged 64. It is not known where he was buried.

Job and Sarah Williams were my great-great-grandparents.
