INQUEST BEFORE MR. HENRY MOZLEY, JUN., CORONER.—On Wednesday the 18th instant at Belper, on the body of Benjamin Knifton, aged 17. He and a companion of his, neither of whom could swim, went out to bathe the evening before in the Derwent; the water being low, deceased attempted to wade across, and in reply to a caution from his companion, said no harm would happen to him; he had scarcely said so when he got out of his depth, and was drowned before assistance could reach him. His body was got out in three quarters of an hour.—Verdict “Accidental death.” |
