IT WAS a proud night for Richard Knifton of Heanor last night when he was presented with the silver award in a swimming marathon he is undertaking at Heanor swimming pool. Richard (33), of Wellington Street Heanor is attempting to swim one million yards in under five years. The big swim is under the Amateur Swimming Association’s adult award scheme. The silver award is for having swum 35,000 yards in 18 months – he in fact completed it in only 11 months. Now he has started on the third stage the gold award. Seen making the presentation is Councillor Arthur Storer, chairman of Amber Valley District Council’s recreation and amenities committee.
