JOTTINGS FROM UPLAND.
...
Some of the boroughites are talking of organizing a fire company in the borough since the late fire at Thomas Knifton’s dwelling house and this is a movement that ought to be considered by everybody and one organized as soon as possible, as there is no telling at what time a disastrous fire might break out. While mentioning this fact it would also be well to state that the Chester firemen, one and all, have the heartfelt thanks for the assistance rendered at the last fire and which was unfortunately overlooked, as they worked like Trojans. Had it not been for them the fire would likely have proven a very bad one.
...
The ruins of the once handsome place of Thomas Knifton now present a desolate appearance, and it is hoped that the place will soon be built up again. |
